I've done identical on our Intranet for accessing our phone book via the web page. However, I think your method of adding a "from" variable is too restrictive/cumbersome. Simply check for the existence of the variables needed for your application to function.

By taking this approach on our phonebook application, a novice Perl user at our site was able to easily write a script so that

$phone <lastname>

works quite well without launching a browser on systems with Perl!

Note that I don't explicitly check if it's a URL or FORM variable type; why restrict it to either method?

hey the tutorial was great, helped me alot and saved me heaps of time, now that ive got the 'edit' button sorted i was wondering if there was a tutorial i could be pointed to that would cover adding data or images and deleting them. thanks in advance
